The speech was analyzed using the canons like invention, arrangement, elocution, memory and delivery. And the speech was found to be outstanding in the five canons. Conclusion: †¢ Usefulness of the search model: The Neo-Aristotelian Approach gave way to a detail analysis of the speech that made Obama the 44th president of the United States. The approach use in this analysis clearly covers all components the speech has to measure its effectiveness to the public. Terrorism and Forces of Change For millennia, the globe has throbbed with human loss due to acts and motivations of terrorism. Today, in the front hall of Buntrock Commons, a mural hangs above the door. Within the last 20 years, international terrorism has escalated to fantastically catastrophic proportions. Today, we look with wider eyes upon the replica of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica. One year ago, terrorists pulled our country into the reality of the world with a horrific act of violence. Grim and gripping, Guernica is now before us. What forces have changed in our world to bring this 75-year-old Spanish mural to hang in our hall with renewed significance? We have finally recognized international terrorism as part of our country’s reality. We are now forced to account for desperate acts of terrorism in real, personal terms. According to Hughes, there exist roughly nine forces of change in the political world today. As outlined in Continuity and Change in World Politics: Competing Perspectives, each force offers some inference into the reality of intercontinental dynamics. Yet this framework of forces cannot be of use without establishing a simple understanding: Where there is dissatisfaction with life prompted by greed, injustice or other source within a minority, and a specific and ruthless will among the dissatisfied to seek violence as a means of change, there will be terrorism. Modern threats to our governments today are simply the escalation of this violent will across continental boarders. In accounting for terrorism, the truly relevant and crucial questions at hand are thus: how do we prevent horrific acts of violence mot ivated by social unrest and how do we administer and alleviate the unrest? Hughes does not offer a response, but does seek to describe our political world of today. It is only when these forces are viewed in conjunction with Hughes’ forces of Global Economic Reconstructing and the Rise and fall of the Global position that a context for international terrorism emerges. The rise to power of one country through the strengthening of its economy and the profitable produce of its population can hinder or even cripple another country, thus creating turbulence among groups of people.

Two Ways to Belong in America Tiffany Detter PRPE 108 October 3, 2012 Caparas Mukherjee states, â€Å"In one family, from two sisters alike as peas in a pod, there could not be a wider divergence of immigrant experience. † (p. 282). Bharati Mukherjee was born and raised in Calcutta, India and immigrated to the United States in 1961 to earn an M. F. A. and a Ph. D. in literature. In â€Å"Two Ways to Belong in America,† Mukherjee addresses the issues that confront immigrants in America. In this passage we see how two of the same people can suddenly feel or experience the same thing in two different ways.Mira and Bharati immigrants from Calcutta have lived in the United States for some 35 years. The Mukherjee sisters find themselves on different sides in the current debate over the status of immigrants. Bharati is an American citizen and Mira is not. When the Mukherjee sisters moved from India they were almost identical in appearance and attitude. Their original plan was to endure two years in America, secure their degrees, then return to India to marry the grooms of their fathers choosing.However, Mira ended up marrying an Indian student and acquired the labor certifications necessary for the green card. Mira lives in Detroit, is nationally recognized for her involvement in the fields of pre-school education and parent-teacher relationships. After 36 years as a legal immigrant she clings passionately to her Indian citizenship and has hopes to return to India when she retires. Bharati married an American of Canadian parentage. She was able to bypass the labor-certification requirements and the race-related â€Å"quota† system.The Mukherjee sisters have remained sisterly close by phone. They probably pitied one another. Mira, for the lack of structure in Bharati’s life, the erasure of Indianness, the absence of an unvarying daily core. Bharati, for the narrowness of Mira’s perspective, her uninvolvement with the mythic depths or the superficial pop culture of this society. Mira feels manipulated and discarded. She believes its such an unfair way to treat a person who was invited to stay and work. Mira’s employer went to I. N. S. and petitioned for the labor certification.She believes that if America wants to make rules curtailing benefits of legal immigrants they should only apply to immigrants who arrive after the rules are in place. Mira’s voice is not just the voice of the South Asian community but of an immigrant community of the millions who have stayed rooted in one job, one city, one house, one ancestral culture, one cuisine, for the entirety of their productive years. Nearly 20 years prior Bharati was living in her husbands ancestral homeland of Canada where she too was always well-employed but never allowed to truly feel part of the Canadian society.Through a green paper that invited a national referendum on the unwanted side effects of â€Å"nontraditional† immigration, the go vernment officially turned against its immigrant communities, particularly those from South Asia. Bharati was able to feel the same feeling Mira currently has and will never be able to forget the pain of that sudden turn. A sense of betrayal had its desired effects and drove Bharati and thousands others from the country.Although the Mukerjee sisters differ, Mira being happier to live in America as expatriate Indian than as an immigrant American and Bharati have the need to feel like a part of the community in which she has adopted. The price that the immigrant pays is the trauma of self-transformation. My sister and I came to face similar hardships as the Mukerjee sisters only in a different way. There is one thing in life all kids eventually have to endure, that is unless you are home schooled. This place can be the most evil place or it can be fun and exciting. No matter what your outlook on this place is, you will have to go.We call this place HIGH SCHOOL!. It is the place of pee r pressure, cliques, different classes and TONS of students roaming the hallways. My sister, Brittany, and I went through this process, and that’s where the most evil thing happened. This is when our close relationship was turned upside down. Brittany was â€Å"cool† and â€Å"popular†. How could she not be? She had the looks, long blonde hair, super model figure, and a dark tint to her skin. Plus she was a cheerleader. Everyone loved the cheerleaders, or so it seemed. I on the other hand was know as â€Å"the brain† or even sometimes â€Å"nerd†.I had to everything to make it through those four dreadful years, only problem was everything was all up in my head and not in the looks. When we entered high school we promised each other that nothing would split us up. We ALWAYS did everything together. BOY WAS THAT A JOKE! This promise was soon to be broken. I wasn’t considered â€Å"cool† enough to hang out with Brittany and her â€Å"po sse†. No one wanted the little sister around or even the â€Å"nerd† to be interfering. Brittany even asked one day at home, â€Å"Why do you HAVE to hang out with me don’t you have your own friends? † So we parted our separate ways.I made friends and Brittany stuck to her group. We were still very close at home when it came to being around family but we were never caught around each other if her friends were around. It wasn’t until Brittany had graduated high school that some of her friends realized that I was more than just â€Å"the brain. † It was as if they had opened up their eyes and realized that I was actually pretty cool in my own way. I had all the quirks and qualities Brittany had except I had none of the drama. It took them constantly asking about Brittany in order for them to realize this fact though.Although I had learned how to cope on my own through high school, Brittany and I still kept our close connection behind closed doo rs. Just like the Mukerjee sisters, Brittany and I â€Å"have stayed sisterly close† (p. 281). We speak on the phone just about every week mostly about our families and children, and when we are with family we are always together. Brittany has showed me how to spice up my wardrobe as I have helped her learn to memorize and maintain her professional job as a nurse. Even though you may experience one thing two different ways you will always know how it feels when met with a situation that another is going through.

It has been over 70 years since the Holocaust. To survivors, the Holocaust remains real and ever-present, but for some others, 70 years makes the Holocaust seem part of ancient history. Year-round we try to teach and inform others about the horrors of the Holocaust. We confront the questions of what happened. How did it happen? How could it happen? Could it happen again? We attempt to fight against ignorance with education and against disbelief with proof. But there is one day in the year when we make a special effort to remember (Zachor). Upon this one day, Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day),  we remember those that suffered, those that fought, and those that died. Six million Jews were murdered. Many families were completely destroyed. Why This Day? Jewish history is long and filled with many stories of slavery and freedom, sorrow and joy, persecution and redemption. For Jews, their history, their family, and their relationship with God have shaped their religion and their identity. The Hebrew calendar is filled with varied holidays that incorporate and reiterate the history and tradition of the Jewish people. After the horrors of the Holocaust, Jews wanted a day to memorialize this tragedy. But what day? The Holocaust spanned years with suffering and death spread throughout these years of terror. No one day stood out as representative of this destruction. So various days were suggested. The tenth of Tevet was proffered. This day is Asarah BTevet and marks the beginning of the siege of Jerusalem. But this day holds no direct relation or tie to the Holocaust.The Zionists in Israel, many of whom had fought in the ghettos or as partisans, wanted to commemorate the beginning of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising—April 19, 1943. But this date on the Hebrew calendar is the 14th of Nissan—the day before Passover, a very important and happy holiday. Orthodox Jews objected to this date. For two years, the date was debated. Finally, in 1950, compromises and bargaining began. The 27th of Nissan was chosen, which falls beyond Passover but within the time span of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Orthodox Jews still did not like this date because it was a day of mourning within the traditionally happy month of Nissan. As a final effort to compromise, it was decided that if the 27th of Nissan would affect Shabbat (fall on Friday or Saturday), then it would be moved. If the 27th of Nissan falls on a Friday, Holocaust Remembrance Day is moved to the preceding Thursday. If the 27th of Nissan falls on a Sunday, then Holocaust Remembrance Day is moved to the following Monday. On April 12, 1951, the Knesset (Israels parliament) proclaimed Yom Hashoah UMered HaGetaot (Holocaust and Ghetto Revolt Remembrance Day) to be the 27th of Nissan. The name later became known as Yom Hashoah Ve Hagevurah (Devastation and Heroism Day) and even later simplified to Yom Hashoah. How Is Yom Hashoah Observed? Since Yom Hashoah is a relatively new holiday, there are no set rules or rituals.  There are various beliefs about what is and is not appropriate on this day—and many of them are conflicting. In general, Yom Hashoah has been observed with candle lighting, speakers, poems, prayers, and singing. Often, six candles are lit to represent the six million. Holocaust survivors speak about their experiences or share in the readings. Some ceremonies have people read from the Book of Names for certain lengths of time in an effort to remember those that died and to give an understanding of the huge number of victims. Sometimes these ceremonies are held in a cemetery or near a Holocaust memorial. In Israel, the Knesset made Yom Hashoah a national public holiday in 1959, and in 1961, a law was passed that closed all public entertainment on Yom Hashoah. At ten in the morning, a siren is sounded where everyone stops what they are doing, pull over in their cars, and stand in remembrance. In whatever form you observe Yom Hashoah, the memory of the Jewish victims will live on. Answers: My Strengths: On the basis of the conduction of the IPIP test, I was being able to comprehend and evaluate the inner strengths that I possess, which can also be utilized for my professional purpose. Accordingly, the top scores generated by the test were in the areas of Agreeableness (98) and Extraversion (93). Hence, the remaining part of my assignment is a critical discussion and evaluation of the personal strengths I possess, and the possible application of the same in my professional domain. A variety of literary articles and research reports claim that these two attributes can enhance the negotiating skills of an employee. Hence, the assignment seeks to address how these strengths can help me assume the role of an effective negotiator. 1. Agreeableness is an integral behavioral trait that enables an individual to be more skilled, resourceful and tactful, while dealing with tough situations. People who are usually agreeable are less disruptive and less aggressive, and this largely helps people to mingle, and get along with other people. Even if a person possesses an ideology apparently contradicting the ideology of the second one, if the former is agreeable he can easily influence the latter (Cote et al. 2011). Being a highly agreeable individual, I can make friends with any one, and the opposite party finds it easier and less stressful to argue with me or contradict my personal opinion. Agreeable people usually tend to have an open, flexible approach to the other persons, and thus their behavior does not happen to infuriate anyone. Similarly, being an agreeable person, I can easily resolve disputes or differences of opinions, by retaining my composure and listening patiently to the perspective of the opposite party as well (Kersten and Hernandez 2016). 2. The emotional preparedness is a major key to the success in any form of negotiation. Prior to nay negotiation, I plan and try to work on the desired behavior while making negotiations. An agreeable individual is usual considerate and can patiently listen to and consider the perspective of other people, before putting forward his own opinion (Oveis et al. 2010). Thus, patience and composure are the two important qualities that should be incorporated while making negotiations. Hence, if the situation at hand is emotionally charged, I ensure that I retain my calm and composure, without expressing unnecessary emotions. Being an agreeable person, I have a calm, friendly approach that barely excites my opponent, yet before any sort of negotiation, I prepare myself in a way so that I do not anger my opponents (Grant and Wrzesniewski 2010). 3. Extraversion is an important personality trait that defines the nature of people who usually love to socialize, openly communicate and freely participate in any sort of action. An important aspect of negotiation related activity involves the process of decision-making. Hence, an extroverted person is more likely to negotiate successfully with a third party rather than a person who is more of a private person. An extroverted person can take others easily in his own confidence, and exercise his influence over the other, without making him wary of the same (Ellis and Young 2013). An extroverted individual usually has an outgoing, pleasant and approachable personality that helps him to take other people into confidence. (Rojot 2016) Above all, owing to the effective communication skills that usually each extrovert individual possesses, the opposing party can also be easily persuaded to settle and resolve the differences. As suggested by my high score in extraversion, I am highly an extroverted person. I am an eloquent speaker, and I can easily take other people into confidence, and influence them to submit to my decision. Being an extroverted person, I can get along with other people easily, and create a rapport with them. Extroverted people can be good negotiators as they can out forward their viewpoints, and the benefits inherent in the same, in a more direct and straightforward fashion (De Wit et al. 2012). The main advantage of negotiating matters through extroverted people is that they usually do not have anxiety problems, while communicating their perspectives. Thus, they can establish their arguments in a more persuasive way, convince the third party, without angering or exciting anyone in the process (Huang 2010). I am able to gel with people, accept their vantage points, and show a sense of understanding towards their social perspectives. Since I can freely communicate and mingle, I can easi ly form rapport that helps me to win the credibility of the opposite person (Montes 2012). Finally, my interactive skills and a positive approach to the problem help me resolve the differences, and ensure the desired outcome. 4. Being an extrovert, I do not have to groom my soft skills that much. Usually, I do not have any communication problem, while putting forth and explaining my standpoint. However, often an extroverted individual tends to digress, while conducting himself in an important affair. Hence, before going out for negotiation, I try to meditate, so that I can reflect and ponder over the issue to be negotiated . An organized approach is needed, and owing to an extroverted nature, I often tend to get carried away by unnecessary or not so important ideas. Hence, I try to arrange my thoughts and ideas systematically, and practice communicating the same to my opposite person (Wall and Dunne 2012). After analyzing and evaluating the above research findings, I have come to the conclusion that being an extroverted person, as well as someone possessing an agreeable personality I have impressive communication and persuasive skills that can help me in negotiation.
